L’iniziativa è promossa nella circostanza dei 350 anni dall’avvio della costruzione dell’attuale Santuario (1676-1678) su preesistente Oratorio (già menzionato nel Trecento) e a 50 anni dalla pubblicazione del primo testo che ne raccontava le vicende.

L’antico luogo di Santa Maria del Castello in Ambivere, in provincia di Bergamo, è raccontato da Roberto Alborghetti (giornalista, scrittore, formatore) con notizie e documenti inediti relativi, tra gli altri, alle origini del Castello e del primo edificio sacro, alle vicende della famiglia Alborghetti la quale, proprietaria della fortezza medievale, entrò in relazione con l’imperatore Enrico VII di Lussemburgo. E ancora: le tappe della riedificazione, lo splendore settecentesco, l’istallazione dell’organo fabbricato dai Serassi, il “giallo” del furto del 1724, lo straordinario concerto di campane fuse dalla storica famiglia Pruneri, l’abbattimento della torre medioevale. La pubblicazione vuole essere un “esercizio di memoria e di conoscenza”, un viaggio nella storia tra date e momenti che hanno segnato la vita di una comunità e di un territorio.

Once upon a time there was a castle… A long story spanning eight centuries and continuing to the present day. From an ancient medieval castle to a sanctuary nestled in the green hills of Bergamo. Above is the link to download the PDF document for free, until September 9, 2026.

The initiative is being promoted on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the construction of the current Sanctuary (1676-1678) on the site of a pre-existing oratory (mentioned in the 14th century) and 50 years since the publication of the first text recounting its history.

The ancient site of Santa Maria del Castello in Ambivere, in the province of Bergamo, is recounted by Roberto Alborghetti (journalist, writer, and educator) with previously unpublished information and documents relating, among other things, to the origins of the Castle and the first sacred building, the history of the Alborghetti family who, as owners of the medieval fortress, entered into relations with Emperor Henry VII of Luxembourg. Furthermore: the stages of the reconstruction, the 18th-century splendor, the installation of the organ built by the Serassi family, the mystery of the theft in 1724, the extraordinary concert of bells cast by the historic Pruneri family, and the demolition of the medieval tower. The publication aims to be an “exercise in memory and knowledge,” a journey through history among dates and moments that have marked the life of a community and a territory.

A suggestion: On Tuesday, September 8th, at 10:00 p.m., “A Chat at the Caffè del Fiola” will be held: an opportunity to discuss the contents of the e-book and the ancient site of Santa Maria del Castello with Roberto Alborghetti. Admission is free; access is from the internal courtyard of the Caffè del Fiola on Via Matteotti.
