WHAT IS THE COVER IMAGE OF THE NEW “FUNDIARIO”? IT’S A PHOTO OF AN OLD BOAT IN GIARDINI NAXOS (TAORMINA, SICILY)

But how did the cover image for the new FUNDIARIO—the 2026/2027 school planner that has been in the hands of thousands of students across Italy for the past two months—come to be? This question was also raised during the recent Didacta Italia Abruzzo event in Lanciano, which brought together tens of thousands of teachers, many of whom visited the Funtasy Editrice and Joy Edizioni exhibition space.

I think it’s worth sharing the story here as well. One morning, while walking along the seafront in Giardini Naxos, near Taormina in Sicily, I spotted an old boat awaiting restoration. My eyes were immediately drawn to the colors on its sides and hull. After thousands of hours at sea, the paint had worn away and weathered. It was as if the seawater, through the sheer force of its waves, had imprinted every possible story of the ocean onto the vessel. By bringing my eyes—and my camera—closer, I was able to hear and perceive those stories.

So, the cover of the new Fundiario is a close-up photograph from the “Lacer/actions” project. It captures a detail of an old boat left on the shore of Giardini Naxos—a place where I also encountered other vessels, which I photographed in their state of decay. Now, that image serves as the cover for Fundiario, a “cre-active” planner designed to help students effectively organize their academic year. It features a square format, the most innovative, modern, and forward-thinking design. It uses the EasyReading® font, which is highly legible, and includes a special insert—this year focused on the theme of healthy and proper lifestyle habits. It is also custom-tailored for each school, with pages dedicated specifically to the individual institution. #fundiario #schooldiary
