These abstract yellow and green scenes – I took them from a rusty iron gate… – remind the colors of Mimosas, the flower which is the symbol in Italy of March 8.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March. In Italy it is traditional on this day to give yellow Mimosa flowers to women as a sign of respect and solidarity. Women give Mimosa to each other as well. Mimosa (Acacia Dealbata) was introduced to Europe from Australia in 1820. It is probably the first tree to flower – as early as January – and its yellow flowers cheer up the winter landscape.
The International Women’s Day began in 1908 to commemorate the 129 women who died in a fire in a factory in Chicago in that year, and also commemorates two other international events: a strike by women garment workers on March 8, 1857 in New York, which led to the foundation of the first women’s union in the US, and a strike by Russian women on the same day in 1917. In 1945 the Union of Italian Women declared that this special date, March 8, should be set aside to celebrate womanhood across the country.

WARNING: THESE AREN’T PAINTINGS,
THEY ARE “LACER/ACTIONS”
Cracks is part of my Lacer/actions Project, about the decomposition of torn publicity posters on outside advertisings (my realistic and not manipulated images are transferred on canvases, lithographic prints or textiles). I’ve been also researching on metal and plastic surfaces, or metal and plastic platings. This is the wonderful world of Cracks… My eyes and cameras discovered in cracks magnifications amazings textures. Also my Cracks are realistic, natural, random and not enhanced images, as you see in this picture, which is not a painting, but a real scene from this real world… These abstract yellow and green recall me the colors of Mimosa…
Thanks for the history.
Thanks to you!

Thank you Lyn! Yes, Mimosas are very popular in Italy (and also in Russia) for March 8. They shorly became the symbol of the International Women’s Day.
