It is back more beautiful than ever, it is appropriate to say. Since last June 23, on the Isola Bella of Taormina (Messina) – a place of wonders, beyond time and the smallness of its space – Villa Bosurgi has reopened after another phase of extraordinary maintenance works. The place – unique, enchanting, a destination for visitors from all over the world – is part of the Naxos Taormina Archaeological Park.

During low tide, the waters allow easy passage on foot on the small island which guards and encloses naturalistic treasures to be safeguarded (and not devastated). With its “secret doors” in stone camouflaged in the rock, the paths in the green among precious tree essences, the seats suspended over the blue sea, the rounded windows with yellow cathedral glass to filter the gold of the sunlight, Villa Bosurgi in Isola Bella is probably one of the first examples of bio-architecture of the last century.

Isola Bella is one of the symbols of Sicily, a place loved by visitors, especially in summer. The maintenance interventions today allow residents and visitors a unique experience of visiting the islet and its original villa, which also includes precious underwater finds, qualifying it as a significant and important presence in the heritage of Sicily.

Surrounded by the sea and connected to the mainland by a thin isthmus of land subject to the physiological cycles of low and high tide, Isola Bella is a very delicate site that every year requires complex maintenance work scheduled during the low season by the Naxos Taormina Park. The works that have just been completed mainly concerned the historic dock, where the boats of the guests or the food supplies for the long stays of the Bosurgi family docked. The restorations also involved the spectacular terraces overlooking the sea, the indoor swimming pool, the outdoor swimming pool (in which a protective net has been installed) and the paths surrounded by greenery.

E’ tornata più bella che mai, è proprio il caso di dire. Dal 23 giugno scorso, sull’Isola Bella di Taormina (Messina) – luogo delle meraviglie, al di là del tempo e dell’esiguità del suo spazio – ha riaperto Villa Bosurgi, dopo un’altra fase di lavori di manutenzione straordinaria. Il luogo – unico, incantevole, meta di visitatori da tutto il mondo – fa parte del Parco Archeologico Naxos Taormina. Nelle fasi di bassa marea, le acque concedono il facile passaggio a piedi sulla piccola isola che custodisce e racchiude tesori naturalistici da salvaguardare (e non devastare). Con le sue “porte segrete” in pietra mimetizzate nella roccia, i sentieri nel verde tra essenze arboree di pregio, le sedute sospese sull’azzurro del mare, le finestre stondate con vetri giallo cattedrale per filtrare l’oro della luce del sole, Villa Bosurgi a Isola Bella è probabilmente uno dei primi esempi di bioarchitettura ante-litteram del secolo scorso.

Isola Bella è uno dei simboli della Sicilia, un luogo amato dai visitatori, soprattutto in estate. Gli interventi di manutenzione oggi consentono a residenti e visitatori una singolare esperienza di visita dell’isolotto e della sua originale villa, che include anche preziosi reperti subacquei, qualificandosi come una presenza significativa ed importante nel patrimonio della Sicilia.

Circondata dal mare e collegata alla terraferma da un sottile istmo di terra soggetto ai cicli fisiologici di bassa e alta marea, Isola Bella è un sito delicatissimo che ogni anno necessita di complessi lavori di manutenzione programmati durante la bassa stagione dal Parco Naxos Taormina. I lavori appena conclusi hanno interessato principalmente la storica dàrsena, in cui approdavano le barche degli ospiti o le scorte di cibo per i lunghi soggiorni della famiglia Bosurgi. I restauri hanno interessato anche le spettacolari terrazze protese sul mare, la piscina coperta, la piscina all’aperto (in cui è stata installata una rete di protezione) e i sentieri immersi nel verde.
