It was a pleasant surprise to admire, at the Ghost Bus Show event, an authentic Lady of English vintage cars. A brilliant Beauty Car – a 1933 Riley 9, license plate Ale 873 – welcomed the numerous participants in the event dedicated to 10 years of the Ghost Bus. Parked in front of the entrance portal of the historic Church of St John the Baptist, Beeston, Nottingham – where the event took place – the historic car inevitably attracted eyes and interest.

It was its owner, the jazz singer and composer Jeanie Barton Music, who had this beautiful idea. After all, Jeanie has always shared The Ghost Bus project and three of her splendid songs have also inspired as many video clips with macro photographs that I took along the streets of Nottinghamshire.

The Riley Beauty Car – one of the historic companies in the UK automotive industry, founded in 1898 and merged with British Leyland in 1969 – is in perfect working order and can be seen speeding through the streets of Nottingham. Her 91 years of age are revealed by some cracks that are precious signs of the passing time, a bit like what happens in my photographs. Needless to say, many wanted to experience the thrill of getting on board and behind the wheel of the legendary Old Lady, dreaming of adventures from times gone by.

È stata una piacevole sorpresa ammirare, nell’evento del Ghost Bus Show, un’autentica Signora delle auto d’epoca inglesi. Una brillante Beauty Car – una Riley 9 del 1933, targa Ale 873 – ha infatti dato il benvenuto ai numerosi partecipanti all’evento dedicato ai 10 anni dell’Autobus Fantasma. Parcheggiata davanti al portale d’ingresso della storica Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, Beeston, Nottingham – dove si è svolta la manifestazione – l‘auto storica ha inevitabilmente attratto occhi e interesse. È stata la sua proprietaria, la cantante Jeanie Barton Music, ad avere avuto questa bellissima idea. Del resto, Jeanie ha sempre condiviso il progetto The Ghost Bus e tre suoi splendidi brani hanno pure ispirato altrettanti videoclip con macrofotografie che ho scattato tra le vie del Nottinghamshire.

La Beauty Car della Riley – una delle aziende storiche dell’industria automobilistica del Regno Unito, fondata nel 1898 e confluita nella British Leyland nel 1969 – è perfettamente funzionante e capita di vederla sfrecciare tra le strade di Nottingham. I suoi 91 anni di età sono rivelati da alcune crepe (cracks) che Jeanie ha saputo valorizzare trasformandole in preziosi segni del tempo, un po’ come accade nelle mie fotografie. Inutile dire che in tanti hanno voluto provare l’ebbrezza di salire a bordo e mettersi al volante della leggendaria Old Lady, sognando avventure d’altri tempi.
