From Denmark to Italy. From Copenhagen to Bitonto (Bari, Apulia). From a faded and frayed billboard to a canvas now displayed on the wall of an ancient residence. These are the strange and surprising trajectories linked to my research project Lacer/actions. A close-up photograph—which I took in the streets of the center of the Danish capital—was transferred to canvas (120 x 97 cm) and placed, as a decorative accessory, in the living room of a 17th-century residence in the heart of Bitonto.

The artwork’s title, “Beyond the Walls” refers to the same image: a laceration that, casually traced on the paper of the advertising poster, reveals another dimension, of color and form. Beyond the visible and appearances, there is always something to discover and investigate. Beyond the walls of an ancient dwelling, there is a history, there is an architecture, there is a culture of living throughout time. I’m delighted that this image—absolutely random, not digitally manipulated—was chosen from the thousands I’ve taken so far on streets around the world.

Thanks to Emanuele Tarantino of New Vision, who meticulously crafted the canvas with a sturdy wooden frame, respecting the chromatic characteristics. Dalla Danimarca all’Italia. Da Copenaghen a Bitonto. Da un tabellone pubblicitario slavato e sfibrato ad una tela ora esposta sulla parete di una dimora antica. Sono le strane e sorprendenti traiettorie legate al mio progetto-ricerca Lacer/actions. Una fotografia ravvicinata – che ho appunto scattato per le vie del centro della capitale danese – è stata trasferita su tela pittorica (misure: 120 x 97 cm) e collocata, come complemento di arredo, nel soggiorno di una residenza che risale al Seicento, nel cuore di Bitonto.

Il titolo dell’artwork è “Oltre le mura” e fa riferimento alla stessa immagine: una lacerazione che, casualmente tracciata sulla carta del poster pubblicitario, rivela un’altra dimensione, di colore e forma. Oltre il visibile e le apparenze c’è sempre qualcosa da scoprire e indagare. Oltre le mura di un’antica abitazione, c’è una storia, c’è un’architettura, c’è una cultura dell’abitare nel corso dei tempi. Lieto che l’immagine – assolutamente casuale, non manipolata digitalmente – sia stata scelta tra le migliaia che ho finora scattato lungo le strade del mondo.

Un ringraziamento ad Emanuele Tarantino di New Vision che ha curato con precisione- e rispetto delle caratteristiche cromatiche – la realizzazione dell’opera su tela con solido telaio in legno.
