Here we are in Luxembourg, one of the smallest states in the world, as well as the only Grand Duchy still existing on the planet. The nation has another record: it stands at the top in the world GDP ranking and is therefore considered the richest on the face of the earth. The first element from which you understand that here we are in a different country – led by His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henry – is given by the fact that, just outside Findel airport, there is no need to worry about looking for tickets for the transfer to the capital city, Luxembourg.

In fact, the public transport service here is FREE. You got it right. All transfers on the (electric) buses and on the formidable LuxTram are NOT paid: for residents and tourists. The public transport network is unparalleled, well structured and extended to the various neighborhoods of the city, which has 128 thousand inhabitants, fully served by frequent and punctual services.
But above all: Luxembourg city is beautiful and deserves more attention on a tourist level. La Vieille Ville (the Upper Town) is located on a rocky spur at the confluence of the Pétrusse and the Alzette. The hill on which it was built about a thousand years ago – the year of foundation by King Siegfried was 963 – falls sheer, on three sides, into the narrow valleys below. The view is breathtaking. The rocky ravines are dizzying. An intelligent management of the territory allows the visitor to immerse himself in a natural and architectural environment where everything is jealously protected and preserved. And proudly. Perhaps this is precisely the true richness of Luxembourg today.

Eccoci in Lussemburgo, uno tra i più piccoli Stati del mondo, nonché unico Gran Ducato ancora esistente sul pianeta. La Nazione ha un altro primato: svetta in testa nella graduatoria mondiale del Pil ed è dunque considerata la più ricca sulla faccia della terra. Il primo elemento da cui capisci che qui siamo in un Paese diverso – guidato da Sua Altezza Reale Granduca Enrico – è dato dal fatto che, appena fuori dall’aeroporto Findel, non occorre affannarsi nel cercare i biglietti per il trasferimento nella città-capitale, Lussemburgo. Infatti, qui il servizio di trasporto pubblico è GRATIS. Avete capito bene. Tutti i trasferimenti sui bus (elettrici) e sul formidabile LuxTram NON sono a pagamento: per i residenti e per i turisti. La rete di trasporto pubblico è ineguagliabile, ben articolata ed estesa ai vari quartieri della città, che conta 128 mila abitanti, serviti di tutto punto da corse frequenti e puntuali.

Ma soprattutto: Lussemburgo città è bellissima e merita maggior attenzione sul piano turistico. La Vieille Ville (la Città Alta) è situata su uno sperone roccioso alla confluenza della Pétrusse con l’Alzette. L’altura su cui venne costruita circa mille anni fa – l’anno di fondazione da parte di re Sigfrido è il 963 – cade a strapiombo, su tre lati, nelle strette vallate sottostanti. Il panorama è da mozzare il fiato. Gli orridi rocciosi sono da vertigine. Una intelligente gestione del territorio consente al visitatore di immergersi in un ambiente naturale ed architettonico dove tutto è tutelato e preservato gelosamente. E orgogliosamente.
