It’s like being in a fairytale country. Or in a dream. These are the sensations experienced in admiring the extraordinary light structures set up in Bitonto (Bari, Puglia) at Porta Baresana and along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, in recent weeks, for the May 26th Festival. The anniversary celebrates the “Marian miracle” that took place in 1734 in the historic battle between the Bourbons and the Austrians: it determined the birth of the Kingdom of Naples. The historic center of Bitonto, in memory of that fact, is transformed.

The light installations are a feast for the eyes and for the mind. And a masterpiece of art and architecture. They are a typical expression of popular festivals, especially in Puglia and Southern Italy. They are beautiful to see, during the day and at night. It is the strength of tradition (in the Latin language: tradere) in its true literal sense: to deliver and transmit a story, a message, a testimony.

E’ come essere in un paese da fiaba. Oppure in un sogno. Sono le sensazioni provate nell’ammirare le straordinarie strutture di luci allestite a Bitonto, a Porta Baresana e lungo il Corso Vittorio Emanuele, la scorsa settimana, per la Festa del 26 Maggio. La ricorrenza celebra il “miracolo mariano” avvenuto nel 1734 nella storica battaglia tra Borboni e Austriaci: determinò la nascita del Regno di Napoli. Il centro storico di Bitonto, nel ricordo di quel fatto, si trasforma.

Le impalcature luminose sono uno spettacolo per gli occhi e per la mente. Ed un capolavoro di arte ed architettura. Sono bellissime da vedere, di giorno e nelle ore notturne. E’ la forza della tradizione (tradere), nel suo vero senso letterale: consegnare e trasmettere una storia, un messaggio, una testimonianza.
